Helpful Information when traveling to Peru

Peru is a very beautiful place to visit for their nice people and incredible biodiversity. Before you travel to any foreign land, is always good to have a few tips to remember and avoid surprises.

Bigkids Adventures are trekking adventures through the rainforest, hot and cold areas along with some high altitude trekking. It is recommended to bring along medication from your doctor for diarrhea and any other stomach problem.

Bigkids also recommends Travel and Medical Insurance in case of sickness or an accident of any type. Bigkids Adventures brings first aid kits and Oxygen along with an extra horse for any emergency. In the event that a Trekker gets sick or hurt BigKids will take you back to Cusco to get immediate and qualified service by a doctor. All costs are the responsibility of the client.

When you arrive in Cusco because of the altitude you should drink plenty of water and coca tea. Keep in mind Cusco is at an altitude of 3,400 meters or 11,154.

In Peru theres some very good food to eat but avoid eating food from street vendors and drink bottled or boiled water. If you get sick, it may cost 3 or 4 days of your trip.

The exchange rate is about 3.25s soles per 1.00 US dollars.  Be sure to have cash available and a visa card, which is widely accepted. There are also ATM machines in Cusco and Lima. When you are out on the trail, you need cash for drinks, candy, food and any other items for sell.

Lima and Cusco are big crowded cities so be aware of your surroundings and keep your belongings near you and away from thieves.

It is a good idea to make a copy of your passport, drivers license or any other important documents you bring along with you and keep them in a separate place from the originals. During your flight to Peru, the airline will pass out a white form to be filled. Keep this form in a secure place, as you will need to present it to the authorities before leaving Peru.
